Types Of Kitchen Ventilation Fan

Kitchen ventilation fan is a mechanical device that improves and maintains the quality of indoor air by drawing out impure and stale air from the kitchen and replacing it with fresh air.  The various types of kitchen ventilation fan are typically ducted to the exterior part of the house and through which the indoor air passes through as it is expelled from your living space.

Main Types of Kitchen Ventilation Fan

There are 6 main types of kitchen ventilation fan, and the classification is based on their location and mount type. These are the following:

  • Ceiling mount ventilation fans
  • Inline kitchen ventilation fans
  • Wall mount kitchen ventilation fans
  • Combination kitchen ventilation fans
  • Kitchen range ventilation fans
  • Exterior remote mounted kitchen ventilation fans

Ceiling Mount Ventilation Fans

As the term implies, this type of kitchen ventilation fans are mounted on the ceiling. These ventilation fans collect and release stale and humid air from the kitchen and the air is expelled through the roof. This mechanical device is linked to the ducting of the home’s ventilation system and stale and impure air is exhausted to the exterior section through the external vent.

Inline Kitchen Ventilation Fans

Unlike the ventilation fans that are mounted on the ceiling, this type of ventilation fan is installed within the ducting system of the home, hence the term “inline exhaust fan.” This is the ideal choice when you want to ventilate a kitchen that does not have any space or clearance which is required by a ceiling mounted ventilation fan. The mechanical device is installed within the duct system and this is attached directly to the ceiling or wall. There are 2 subtypes of inline ventilation fan - single port and multi-port exhausting fans.

Wall Mount Kitchen Ventilation Fans

This type of kitchen ventilation fan is mounted on the exterior part of the kitchen wall. This device serves as the direct route of stale and humid air from the kitchen to the exterior part of the home. This means that it does not require any ducting in the installation of this exhaust device.

Combination Kitchen Ventilation Fans

As the term suggests, this type of kitchen ventilation fan is a combination unit, and your choices include devices that provide illumination and lighting or a combination of ventilating, lighting and heating in a single kitchen device.

Kitchen Range Ventilation Fans

This type of kitchen ventilation fan is an integral component of the range hood ventilation system. It is installed inside the range hood over the stove and oven. This exhaust device does not only get rid of stale air but reduces moisture and sucks up bad odors generated in your kitchen.

Exterior Remote Mounted Kitchen Ventilation Fans

The main distinctive feature of this type of kitchen ventilation fan is that it is located on the exterior part of the home. This device “sucks up” the polluted and humid air while the other types of kitchen ventilation fan push the stale air out of the home. The main advantage of this ventilation fan is that it keeps the noise out of the interior living space as the device is installed on the exterior part of the home.
